A Moment Shared

I sat on the rocks next to that cobalt chair for over a half an hour. The entire time, a seagull stood on his own little piece of rock behind me. He did not move. He observed me, I observed him...but he stayed as long as I stayed.

I finally got up, gathered my things and passed him as I wandered back to the beach. He still didn't move.

I paused and turned to look at him once more, this still creature, and slowly moved toward him to take a picture while a stream of sunlight seemed to pass right through him.

I'd like to think we had an understanding, him and I. For a brief time, we were one in the same. I wasn't human, he wasn't bird... we were two living beings sharing an ordinary moment in time that didn't seem quite so ordinary. While the world kept hurtling through space, while the waves swelled and receded from the shore, while the airplanes and satellites and comets tore holes through the sky, while all the people and birds and ants busily carried on with their many important tasks, we shared a space of stillness.

He stayed until I was gone.
And he continues to stay within me.

  1. he is beautiful....what a photo !

  2. how incredibly beautiful ... love to you, xo

  3. Oh, you are my favorite poet. Blogging, prose, whatever we call it - you are a poet.

  4. I love your images, but it is your writing that keeps me coming back. Simply beautiful.

  5. i wonder what he knows that we may be missing...
    gorgeous photo, wonderful sentiment...

  6. Of course you had an understanding - an understanding of that very moment, the same air around you both, perhaps a breeze touched you and then carried a bit of you over to him. Of course. What a wonderful event, this meeting of kindred souls. I am sure he still carries it within him also.

  7. What a great description of a beautiful moment!

  8. " i was't human,he was 'nt a bird...."

" comets tore holes through the sky, while ......we shared a space of stillness "

    This is beautiful!

a communion, a temple brimming with silent celebrations, a bell resonnating within our stillness.

The 'being' held and connected with golden threads to the 'over being'.

How can there be anything but peace, should we all link ourselves in this powerful source which if so full of healing and love.

    Love it!!

    thankyou Jaime !

  9. Oh, how I loved this! Such a terrific photo too...:-)

  10. This has a Taoist touch - it's beautiful!

  11. Home from the sea
    just you and me__
    and the anchovies.

  12. Most would miss these moments and not think anything about a seagull on a seashore, for a seagull on a seashore is as common as sand on a seashore...until someone points out that if you take a little time to think about ordinary everyday things they can become extraordinary!! The world seems so much more magical through your eyes...thanks for stopping to smell the...umm...seagulls! lol

  13. Hello
This was no ordinary bird. You were lucky, you were touched by an angel.

  14. Yes you were! One. One and the same consciousness. I guess if we pay attention and slow down enough sometimes to really connect with the things around us, we'd find much deeper connections more often.
What a cool moment that was.

  15. Wow. I'm speechless.
Words seem inadequate to express my reaction. You've definitely captured the moment in words and image.

  16. that was absolutely beautiful.

your writing is as amazing as your photographs -

  17. What a precious moment! Thank you so much for coming by. I'm looking forward to continuing the journey of discovery with you ladies on 'the four'.

  18. you have the biggest heart. so many people see seagulls as scavengers and a bird to be disgusted pigeons or too many geese. but you..... you revere him as you do all life and that is one of the reasons i love you so much :)
