Icebound

As the temperature dips lower and lower, the yellow flowers are coated with snow and icicles hang like wind chimes outside my bedroom window. I've been trying to keep the hummingbird feeder from freezing. There are at least two little birds who depend on me as they puff up and try to keep warm. They hover near the window and watch as I warm their hummer-juice and start drinking before I can hang the feeder up! One almost flew into my cupped hands the other day. I'm sure he could feel the warmth...and maybe the love?

  4. Oh yes, the love and concern for their welfare! I can't believe they are still there! Do they stay there all winter? I thought they were all supposed to go to warmer climes this time of year.
Someone needs to take a picture of you doing that. They will and on your hand and feed there if you let them.

  7. What beautiful captures! I think it was the love, too. I'm surprised the little guys don't fly to warmer climes.

  11. Poor little hummingbirds, but lucky ones too. Waiting for you, knowing you will be there for them. What a connection.

We are in the 70s today, and humidity is the name of our town. Back to colder temps tomorrow - Texas weather. Today your icy images help me stay cool. They are incredible & I feel I could just reach out & break their fragileness. But I won't.

  12. I also wonder where you live, that there are still flowers despite the cold. And the hummingbirds! I think hummingbirds only visited my mom's house in Texas in the spring.

All of your photos are so beautiful... I hardly know what to say. And you are able to catch close-ups with such clarity. I am always amazed.

  15. don't you sometimes wish you could just help the little birds a little bit...maybe make a new little nest for them right there by your window...with extra softness inside...and warmth...and then every day you could give them some food...and more warmth..and more love...and maybe then they will come in through the window...and join you for breakfast.....and laughter...and twitter as the snow softly fall outside...xx
