Where Stars are Born

My living space is aglow with little white fairie lights. They hang from my window, tipped with little glass stars at the ends that catch my eye when they twirl and bounce the light. Would it really be so bad if I kept them up most... no, all of the year? Not all of them.. just a little string of white lights? They make me happy. They release a warm inviting light into the room that has the same effect on me that a good paint colour does.

Hmmm. But I guess they wouldn't be as special at Christmas, if I had them up all year.

I am in full nesting mode. It's as though all of my senses want to be coaxed and nurtured... whether it be the spiced gingerbread fog wafting from the oven, the soft fuzz of my new slippers under my toes, the hypnotic rhythm of the raindrops tapping at my windowpanes, or a cup of creamy nut oolong warming my hands and cheeks.... all of these simple pleasures entice me to stay in, to slow way down and to be exceptionally mindful. And most grateful.

I just want to be home. In my nest. Until the flowers come out.

  4. Oh my goodness, this is so simple and beautiful. I have missed coming here so much. Thank you. I also adore twinkly white fairy lights and have been tempted to keep them up all year, but like you worry that that will take away a bit of the magic. Maybe we should try it out this year, see how it goes. =)

  8. oh, for any baking fragrance at all wafting from my oven..... just a minute....oh, for my oven in the first place !! the cabinet people are on my list of "naughty" this year.... I may have an oven Friday...but, no guarantees. All my baking ...including gifts ...did not get done this year. I will be lucky to have a real oven and not just my toaster oven for the day......sigh......

yes it is a perfect time of year for staying home and warm... just enjoying our chance to be cozy.... now if only I could be baking ..... grrrrr .....

  11. I have a canopy of twinkle lights above my living room, hung more than a year ago in a burst of inspiration that turned out to be slightly more work than I imagined ;), and I love sitting under it in the evenings. It is magical and warm and inviting.

You make me want to stay in myself, which is exactly what I am already doing with the chilly days.

  12. Your photos Jaime are absolutely breathtaking. Every one infuses me with a sense of peace. I love the post especially your descriptions of the gingerbread, the new slippers and the raindrops on the window. There's always a time for a good cup of tea.

  13. Hi friend! I completely agree with Chris above. I check in periodically to see if you are around but completely understand if you are not...blogging is about expressing ourselves...when the passion strikes...not the calendar. The photos are exquisite. Just so beautifully exquisite. A big warm hug for you!
