We Made Some Serious Eye Contact

What a beautiful creature.

He took my breath away this evening... I was photographing a friend near a lovely little pond, and this guy flew into a nearby branch and stole the show. He seemed sleepy and winked at me a few times... such long dreamy eyelashes... I wish I could have captured them for you.

What is it about owls that leave us so much in awe? Is it because they are so rarely seen in daylight? Or is it because when they look at you with those great big intense eyes, it's as though they are peering right into the very depths of you?

He was a rare gift on this fine summer day. He must be an early riser.

  7. How amazing! I hear them often here, in evening and morning, but I have never seen one. They must live somewhere in the tiny patch of trees near my apartment. Their hoot is so magical. (Oh! Did you ever read the book about the girl who had an owl?! WEsley the Owl! I think you would love it. I wish I could pop over and leave it on your doorstep.)

  8. My uncle told me that on a few nights during one week, one summer, he would hoot like an owl from his deck and that an owl would hoot in response. He was convinced that these wise conversations they were having we're truly remarkable until the day he talked to one of his neighbors up the road with the exact same story. Ha!

  12. Jaime, I've missed you so much. And look at what I see here...a beautiful owl! I love owls. I have owl pendants, owl kitchen mitts, an owl skirt, etc. What a wonderful catch when you didn't expect it. 5 years ago, we went on a night time hike through the woods with a guide. He played owl calls on a tape recorder and after about 20 min. several owls flew right above us to defend their territory. It was a beautiful night and experience. I can't wait to catch up on you lovely photography.
