I'm Feeling the Flurry

June is blur of activity. One more week of craziness and then I can slowly settle into the quiet dreamy glow of summer. It's piano recital time. Not my favourite time. I feel like a nervous parent to each of my students as they prepare for their performances on Saturday.

These flowers remind me of all the smiley happy faces of family and friends that will make up our audience...faces peeping between other faces, eager to see their child walk to the piano, place their hands on the keys and share with everyone what they've learned this year.

Ooohh, I can't wait until it's over. It doesn't seem to get any easier each year, and I am learning to accept that. I am anxious because I am invested in these kids...and that's a good thing. It's well worth the butterflies.

  1. Well, you have done all you can for the kids so relax and enjoy the glow of your work. I am sure they will all play beautifully.

Love the flowers, cant wait until you can get out and enjoy the lazy time by taking more pictures for us to view.

Good luck. (even though you won't need it)

  2. My! I've missed your gorgeous photography! Thank you for the "rhayne" fix. Piano recital time...that does bring back memories. In our Michigan days, I ran a ballet studio for 3 years. I also got really caught up in the excitement and nervousness of performances. Teachers like you are invaluable because during my substitute teaching years in NY, I came across some pretty unmotivated teachers. Your nervousness comes from the fact that are really making a positive impact on these young lives!

  6. Sweet Jaime, they are so very lucky to have you as a teacher, to have you in their lives. I remember Sloane's first piano recital and how amazed I was. I had never been to anything - I mean it - not anything where absolutely everyone was rooting for every performer. Never. The older kids were patient and encouraging and genuinely applauded even the worst and youngest plunkers. I guess because they all remembered what it was like starting out. Still, athletes don't always remember what it was like to be learning a sport. All older siblings don't remember what it was like to be so young. It seems, that all pianists do remember. I love the happy, encouraging spirit that infuses piano recitals. Lucky you. Lucky them.

  10. This is so beautiful Jaime and I know the recital performances will be just as enchanting...there's nothing so wonderful as watching those you've nurtured, to stretch, bloom and grow.

  11. You sound as lovely in spirit as the flowers you've displayed. There's simply nothing like a hedge of clematis, nor of sweet music performed by children. Lucky you!

  13. my friend is a piano teacher and he goes through the same emotion. it's a proud moment for you as well as the students.
i love the comparison of these flowers with the crowd of happy listeners.
    good luck to all.

funny my word verification was "pangs" - i imagine some of the children get pangs of fear as they enter the stage but you help calm those pangs with your confidence in them.
