The Sound and the Fury
There's something about a wind so strong that it almost knocks you flat over sideways. So much power. It makes you feel so small and insignificant. It fills you with awe and complete surrender to any sense of control you think you might have. We really truly are at Mother Nature's mercy.
Usually I like to watch these kinds of winds from the comfort of my living room window, but today I went out and felt myself drown in it, and it was so amazing. I walked down to a favourite beach and listened to the water roll over the small stones. It is such a satisfying sound...kind of like bubble wrap or ice crackling in a glass. It almost sounds as though the rocks are hollow. To an ant's ears, it must be forbidding. I wonder how many stones are on that beach? There is a finite number...a number I will never know.
I think there are just as many knots in my hair now. ouch.

rocks on the beach or knots in my hair from an amazing walk....i love it all !!!
ReplyDeleteI love that sound. So much. These photos are mesmerizing. I could barely tear my eyes away. I'd love to visit your beach someday. xoxox
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. I am much more drawn to the beaches that are wild and ruggid like in your photos. I don't really like the island-y umbrella, frisbee playing beaches with lots of people. Really beautiful landscape shots! So lovely and isolated feeling.
ReplyDeleteI love it when the wind is crazy like that, it can be cleansing, kind of refreshing in a way. Defininitely blows the cobwebs away.
ReplyDeleteWhere we used to live we had gales all of the time. I never thought I would miss the wind, but I do! I miss the storming and the wildness.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post - I think you have encouraged me to get out for a walk!
lol.
sending love!
All your photos have beautiful calm atmosphere. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd the way you accompany them with text is so unique and creates even stronger feelings about your posts.
I really like your blog!
The wind always scares me ~ all I can think of is tornados when I hear it roaring like that.
ReplyDeleteLovely images as always Jaime!

your words evoke ideas i've yet to contemplate... i wonder what ant ears look like?? and your photos & layout always help me breathe a little deeper :)
ReplyDeleteThe beach is eternally soothing, and more so now that I have visited yours through your words...
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful way to begin my overcast morning.
:-)
(((hugs))),
love,

such powerful beauty.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like feeling the wind in your hair. And - I can feel the fury of the ocean's waves as they pound against the shore.
ReplyDeleteYour photos and post have me craving a ocean trip. Lovely:)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful walk on the beach - just gorgeous and the thought of your hair whipping in the wind is romantic (even if combing out the tangles isn't)
ReplyDeleteI can almost feel the wind in these photos! I'm always drawn to the ocean and the pounding waves. These are just amazing, Jaime! I hope you managed to get the knots out of your hair! :) xo
ReplyDeleteI grew up near beaches that were rocky and cold and windy most of the year. Possibly why my preferred beach is wild and rugged and cold and windy. Like this one. I feel like I'm at home.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jaime. These images make me homesick. I miss Oregon so much my stomach hurts. You are so very gifted.
ReplyDeleteAnd, oh how I love the wind. Love it.
Beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteIf I can't sleep, I put on the sound of the ocean as white noise. Guaranteed to send me off to sleep in a flash.
We've recently been back to New Zealand on holiday and I got a lot of beach time in there. Bliss
I felt it, amazing.
ReplyDeleteohhhh the beauty of the ocean.... how I loved going to Oak Bay to visit my Mom when she was there.....
ReplyDeleteAnd... just got home from Portugal... first holiday in 10 years.... the ocean.... wow.... loved walking on the beach at Nazare ...huge waves and wild spray on the day we were there.... it was wonderful. So blue from above in our photos. Wish I had a great camera and knew how to use it..... but... I'm too lazy to learn.... and, even with my little point and shoot....we can remember how it looked and felt...
mmm....i love the sound of the wind too...it feels as if it embraces me with everything on the inside...and shooosh and shaawsh side to side without even thinking about any of the insides... i feel instantly calm and content when i hear the wind.... my first thoughts are always 'ooo...i love the wind'... beautiful beautiful post...Linni xx
